DECORATING A MINIMALIST HOUSE DESIGN

Decorating A Minimalist House

Furniture

Contemporary Japanese furniture, some Art Deco pieces, and Dutch modern pieces are all excellent choices for the minimalist house. Of course, minimalist furniture manufacturers are also common and can be found in many high design magazines. Although many pieces appear to be uncomfortable, that is often not the case. Consider taking a trip to a furniture showroom to try out different styles of furniture to find the correct fit for you.

Upholstery and Drapes

Fabrics should be in a neutral color with very little texture. Plan on spending a bit more on fabric for a minimalist house: plain fabrics that are inexpensive often look cheap when used without other adornment. Natural fibers should also be used whenever available: linen and wool are popular in minimalist designs.

Paint

Neutral paint, perhaps with a single accent wall painted a different color, is common in minimalist design. Gloss and semi gloss paint is often rejected favor of flat paint. While this type of paint will further the minimalist decor, it will also highlight any imperfections on the walls and be difficult to clean.

Storage

Storage is an essential part of minimalist house decor. While home design magazines may encourage you to clear clutter be discarding it, most people have possessions that are incompatible with minimalism. For this reason, storage that conceals items that do not fit your decor is important. Built in storage is the most practical for minimalist interiors, as long as it is steam lined to fit with the rest of the house.
