BEFFORE BUY THE MODERN FLORAL VINE RUG

Before You Buy

Before you can get to the fun part – buying your floral vine rug – there are a few factors to keep in mind to ensure you’ll be pleased with your purchase.

Size

Sizing is perhaps the most important thing you need to figure out before your purchase. Vine rugs come in a range of shapes – rectangular, oval, circular, octagonal or long runner. The right shape depends on the shape of your room and what area you want the rug to cover. For instance, if you want to use the rug for a dining area in your kitchen, a circular or oval rug will look great. If you want the rug to cover the whole room, think rectangular.

With your desired shape in mind, start measuring. For rectangular rugs, put a piece of paper in each corner where you would like the rug’s edge to hit. Measure between the papers and then match those measurements to the manufacturer’s pre-set sizes. This technique works for oval and runners as well. Note that you can special order rugs in specific sizes, but usually a pre-cut rug will come close enough to work and will save you a significant amount of money.

For circular rugs, place a piece of paper where you would like the rug’s edge to hit and then measure from the center of where the rug will be to that paper. Double that result to get the diameter of the rug you need and again find your best manufacturer’s fit.

If you want the rug to fill the room, simply measure the room and deduct about 12 inches to create a border for the rug.

Materials

Vine rugs come in a variety of synthetic and natural materials. Synthetic material rugs tend to be less expensive, but natural materials are the best choice if allergies are a concern in your family.

Padding

You will need a pad to keep your vine rug in place. The pad is usually not included, so remember this extra expense when you shop for your rug.

Wear and Tear

Rugs can take a beating in high traffic areas like hallways and kitchens. Consider Scotchgard treatments to protect your rugs in these areas. Synthetic material rugs tend to hold up better in high traffic zones.

Style

Last but not least, consider style. Since floral vine rugs come in so many variations, they are compatible with many design styles. However, they do have a modern feel and can often be somewhat casual. For this reason, floral vine rugs can be difficult to incorporate into traditional and formal rooms.

MINIMALIST HOME LIVING

While many homeowners appreciate a minimalist decor when it appears in a home decorating magazine. many may find it difficult to adapt to this decor. In order to keep the uncluttered lines and simplicity of this style, regular cleanings and scrupulously avoiding clutter is essential.

For homeowners with children and pets, it may be difficult to avoid stains in a light color scheme. For this reason, either darker colors should be used or regular deep cleanings should be scheduled to keep the interiors looking fresh.

A house that relies on shades of white can also influence the moods of its inhabitants. While color theory indicates that many people find light neutrals soothing, there is also a strong institutional association with these colors. For this reason, some people find minimalism cold or even depressing.

MINIMALIST HOME DESIGN IN BUDGET

If you are interested in minimalism within a small budget, the best technique is to slowly transform the space, rather than attempting to completely outfit the room at once. This will allow you buy pieces on sale and slowly evaluate what other items are required.

Of course, it is essential to have some type of plan for the space before you begin purchasing items. If you are lucky, some of your furniture can be repurposed within the new decor. Quality pieces of furniture with clean lines can be reupholstered to fit the space.

It is important when creating a minimalist decor to carefully consider the walls, floors, and ceiling. Textures and colors should be eliminated when possible, unless they have a particular design emphasis. Traditionally, minimalism has favored hard flooring, such as wood, concrete, or tile, over carpet. Textured walls and ceilings are also often inappropriate for this type of design. It is important to decide if any alterations to the actual architectural elements within the room are required before purchasing items to fill the space.

DECORATING A MINIMALIST HOUSE DESIGN

Decorating A Minimalist House

Furniture

Contemporary Japanese furniture, some Art Deco pieces, and Dutch modern pieces are all excellent choices for the minimalist house. Of course, minimalist furniture manufacturers are also common and can be found in many high design magazines. Although many pieces appear to be uncomfortable, that is often not the case. Consider taking a trip to a furniture showroom to try out different styles of furniture to find the correct fit for you.

Upholstery and Drapes

Fabrics should be in a neutral color with very little texture. Plan on spending a bit more on fabric for a minimalist house: plain fabrics that are inexpensive often look cheap when used without other adornment. Natural fibers should also be used whenever available: linen and wool are popular in minimalist designs.

Paint

Neutral paint, perhaps with a single accent wall painted a different color, is common in minimalist design. Gloss and semi gloss paint is often rejected favor of flat paint. While this type of paint will further the minimalist decor, it will also highlight any imperfections on the walls and be difficult to clean.

Storage

Storage is an essential part of minimalist house decor. While home design magazines may encourage you to clear clutter be discarding it, most people have possessions that are incompatible with minimalism. For this reason, storage that conceals items that do not fit your decor is important. Built in storage is the most practical for minimalist interiors, as long as it is steam lined to fit with the rest of the house.

MINIMALIST HOUSES IN PRINCIPLES

Limited Color Palette
Most minimalist houses will follow a strict color palette that is made of primarily neutral colors. One or two bold non neutrals may be added to emphasize a particular detail or object, but in general the colors will be restricted to tones of white, beige, and gray.
Use of Platonic Forms

Simple geometric shapes are often created or used in the construction of the furniture introduced into the space. Edges are crisp, clean, and precise and there is very little ornament.
Minimal Accessories

Visually complex items, such as bookshelves, paned windows, or even patterned pillows or drapes are limited. Most of these elements are carefully concealed within pieces of furniture.
Appreciation of Negative Space

In general, minimalist houses have less furniture and other accessories than other houses. Instead, an appreciation of empty space is emphasized, with each piece of furniture carefully placed to do a specific function.
Lack of Texture

Most minimalist interiors also seek to limit varying textures. If a particular pattern is readily apparent in a minimalist house, it is there to emphasize a specific detail. Even if a texture is emphasized, the textures will be restricted to only one or two pieces.

CONTEMPORARY MINIMALIST HOME DESIGN

Minimalist home design can be either modern or contemporary in nature. The unifying element should be a focus on form, color, and texture, as opposed to ornamentation. Lighting in both cases tends to be industrial in design with a focus on track lights, art lamps, and accent spotlights. Modern minimalist spaces usually feature white or neutral walls with little to no trim work or window casings. The plain walls allow artwork and large accessories to take center stage. Large walls of windows or glass are commonly used to create a sense of airiness and maximize natural light. A modern layout is typically open concept with simple room divisions made with furniture, bookcases, fabric, or low-rise cabinets.

Modern minimalist home design uses bold geometric forms along with polished finishes and asymmetrical balance. Texture is kept to a minimum, and form takes precedence over function. Furniture is streamlined in shape and is upholstered with fabrics or leather in neutral colors or tone-on-tone patterns. Metal accents like stainless steel or chrome are often seen on furniture pieces, hardware, or fixtures. Wood surfaces and cabinetry often receive a polished or lacquered finish over a light color of wood. Flooring is usually an easy care surface like concrete, wood, linoleum, stone, or tile.

MINMALIST BATHROOM INTERIOR DESIGN

The core goal of minimalist home design is to break down forms and structures to their basic elements. The straightforward nature of Asian design, particularly classic Japanese design, has been one of the inspirations for minimalism. Famous designers who pioneered minimalist ideas include Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and members of the De Stijl Dutch art movement. Mies van der Rohe focused on the exterior frame of buildings while adopting open floor plans on the inside.

Minimalist designers and architects concentrate on removing dimension from spaces and connecting the intersecting visual planes of the building. This leaves room to diligently plan out the wide open spaces of the interiors. The initial push to rediscover pure forms is now supplanted by the desire to instill a sense of calm, harmony, and spirituality in interior spaces.
